Chocolat Royale ’11 yr Expired Product/Maggots’ Shocker: NAFDAC Shuts Down Ice Cream Parlour

What I find all interesting with this Chocolat Royale situation is the action taken by NAFDAC. It must have been reported to the authorities and action was taken. Some would offer, of course, action had to be taken. But its Nigeria we are talking about her. This must not be taken for granted unfortunately. The pomposity of expatriates who run businesses such as Chocolat Royale leaves a taste of expired ice cream on your palate.

My dear sis Remi once treated the family to, what looked like a sumptuous well decorated cake. It was a trip to a shop (name withheld for now) in V.I. She bought. Children delighted. Drove all the way back to Lekki. She prepared lunch and settled to cut into the cake for dessert. Guess what? It was off. The taste was unbelievably sour. She was furious because it was her second experience from the same shop. She called customer service. They were adamant nothing was wrong with the sold cake. It made her more furious. She wasn’t going to take this insult.  Guess what.

she didn’t care her tiredness, traffic and all the hassle. She got into the car and drove all the way back, not minding the notorious traffic to the well patronised store (especially by the sizeable foreign lagos residents and visitors) to give the store a piece of her mind. Upon arrival, they saw her mood and knew she had a point. They politely invited her upstairs. Apologised and offered her a replacement, bigger in size. My sis took it this last time and promised to contact NAFDAC if it happens again. .

That was my personal experience. You can imagine many that must have gone unreported.
